Gains
Privacy policy

The short version. Without an account, nothing you log in Gains leaves your device. If you sign in, your training data is sent to our own server so that it can sync between your devices, and for nothing else. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party SDKs, and we never sell or share your data.
Delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account) and everything on the server goes with it.
Who we are
Gains is an independent app, built and run by one developer. "We" on this page means the
people who run Gains, and "the server" means api.gains.gerra.sh, which we
run ourselves. Questions about this policy or your data go to
gains@gerra.sh.
Using Gains without an account
You can use every part of Gains as a guest. Then everything stays in a database on your device and is never sent to us:
- Workouts you log or import. A CSV file you import from Liftoff, Strong, Hevy or another app is read on the device.
- Body weight, programs, custom exercises and your settings.
- Photos you add to a workout. Gains copies the photo you pick into its own storage and only asks for the photos you choose.
- Streak reminders, which are notifications scheduled on the device.
Your device's own backups (iCloud or Google) may include the app's data, under Apple's or Google's terms. Deleting the app deletes its data from the device.
Signing in
Signing in is optional. It lets you keep your data when you change phones and sync it between devices. You sign in with Apple or Google. We receive the identity token they issue, and from it:
- an account identifier from Apple or Google, which is how we recognise you;
- your email address (with Sign in with Apple, this can be a private relay address);
- your name, if you share it.
We never see your Apple or Google password. Apple's and Google's own privacy policies cover what they do when you sign in with them.

Body weight and workout data are fitness and health information, so we treat all of it as sensitive. If you were a guest before signing in, what is already on the device is uploaded when you link the account.
How we use it
Only to run the app: to keep your account, store your data and send it back to your other devices. We don't use it for advertising, we don't build profiles, we don't track you across apps or websites, and we don't sell, rent or share it with anyone. Gains contains no analytics or advertising code.
The data is sent over HTTPS and only your account can read it back. It is not end-to-end encrypted, so the server stores it in a form we could technically read. We only look at it when you ask us to, for example to help with a problem you've written to us about.
Where it is stored
On a server we run ourselves, rented from the hosting company Hetzner Online GmbH. Nobody else processes your data for us. Like any web server, it records the requests it receives (IP address, time, the address requested) in logs that we use to keep it running and secure, and that are rotated out automatically.
How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. Workouts or photos you delete in the app are deleted on the server at the next sync.
Deleting your account
In the app, open Settings → Delete account. This removes your account, its Apple and Google sign-ins, every workout, setting and photo from the server, straight away. The data on your device stays, and you keep using Gains as a guest; delete the app to remove that too.
You can also stop using your Apple ID with Gains from your iPhone's Settings → [your name] → Sign in with Apple, and remove Gains' access to your Google account at myaccount.google.com/connections. If you can't reach the app, email us from the address on your account and we'll delete it for you.
The guest list
If you email us to join the guest list, we keep your email address to tell you when Gains launches, and for nothing else. Ask us and we'll remove it; we delete the list after the launch.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it. Email gains@gerra.sh and we'll answer within 30 days. If you are in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Gains is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly hold data about them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. We won't start using data you've already given us in a new way without asking you first.
